Update: Making good on Headline Planet’s projection, Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus)” remains #1 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.

The song is celebrating a 17th week as America’s #1 song. The reign represents a new record, breaking the 16-week mark held by Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” and Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito (featuring Justin Bieber).”

Also in this week’s Top 5: Billie Eilish’s “bad guy” at #2, Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello’s “Señorita” at #3, Khalid’s Talk at #4 and Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” at #5.

A record dating back to the mid-1990s is on the verge of being broken.

Based on a preliminary reading of the numbers, Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus)” is expected to retain the #1 position on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.

Should that forecast come to fruition, the smash will celebrate a seventeenth week in the pinnacle position. That will represent the longest reign in the history of the Hot 100 chart.

“Old Town Road” is currently in a three-way tie with Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” (1995-96) and Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito (featuring Justin Bieber)” (2017).

Billboard is expected to make the formal announcement Monday afternoon.
