Update: Taylor Swift’s “You Need To Calm Down” has reached #1 on the US iTunes sales chart.

Just before the clock hit midnight late Thursday, Taylor Swift released her new single “You Need To Calm Down.”

As of 1:35AM ET Friday morning, it is the #2 song on the US iTunes sales chart.

“You Need To Calm Down” only trails Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus)” on the listing. It will be interesting to see if it can dethrone that juggernaut in the coming hours.

As “You Need To Calm Down” gains traction on iTunes, it is also taking flight on other platforms. The song is positioned prominently on Spotify’s New Music Friday and Today’s Top Hits playlists.

The song is also beginning its run at radio, where it is going for immediate airplay. Some stations even plan to play “You Need To Calm Down” every hour on Friday.

“You Need To Calm Down” is the follow-up to Swift’s “ME! (featuring Brendon Urie).” Both songs appear on her new album “Lover,” which arrives August 23.
