Ratings: Wango Tango TV Special Falls From Last Year

The 2019 Wango Tango broadcast drew a smaller audience than last year’s show.

5 SECONDS OF SUMMER at Wango Tango 2019 (Freeform/Kyusung Gong)

Freeform’s 2019 iHeartRadio Wango Tango drew a smaller same-night audience than the 2018 iteration.

According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Friday’s special averaged a 0.07 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 0.20 million viewers. Last year’s show drew a 0.10 in the demo and 0.29 million in overall viewership.

Granted, the comparisons are not apples-to-apples. Whereas last year’s event aired on a Sunday, this year’s show aired on Friday night. Last year’s show was also more “current” — it aired the night after the actual live event rather than six days later.

On the other hand, this year’s show benefited from lighter competition. While both technically aired against the NBA Championship, only the 9-9:30PM portion of this year’s broadcast faced the actual game. Last year’s Wango Tango faced a higher-rated game from start-to-finish.
