“The Big Bang Theory” will return for a twelfth season this fall.

There will not be a thirteenth season.

CBS, WB TV and Chuck Lorre Productions jointly confirm that the show, which has long ranked as television’s #1 comedy, will end with the upcoming season.

“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons,” says the official statement. “We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”

Ratings and buzz have cooled in recent years, but the show remains a dominant ratings performer.

The final season premieres on September 24; it will end in May.
