“Westworld” enjoyed a viewership gain despite competition from the NBA Finals.

For the first time this season, an episode of “Westworld” enjoyed gains in adults 18-49 and overall viewership.

According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Sunday’s “Westworld” drew a 0.50 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 1.39 million overall viewers.

While the numbers are modest in comparison to the show’s historical standard, they reflect gains from the 0.39 rating and 1.11 million viewer mark posted by last week’s episode (both were series lows).

Neither episode aired in ideal circumstances. Last week’s broadcast aired on Memorial Day Weekend and faced game seven of the NBA Eastern Conference Championship. This week’s broadcast faced competition from game two of the NBA Finals.

This week’s episode also offered the follow-up to last week’s closing development: the surprise return of season one star (and entertainment icon) Anthony Hopkins, who plays Robert Ford.

— “Westworld” led into the series premiere of HBO’s “Succession” (0.15 rating, 0.58 million viewers). “Last Week Tonight” followed with a 0.40 in the demo and 1.14 million in viewership.
