The first season finale of FOX’s “The Resident” will air next week.

Yes, you read that correctly. “Season finale.” In a Monday morning announcement, FOX confirmed that the medical drama will be back for season two.

“Amy, Todd and all the producers on THE RESIDENT set out to create a medical show that viewers haven’t seen before – to peel back the curtain and reveal the truth of what happens, both good and bad, behind the scenes at hospitals across the country. Clearly, they’ve succeeded,” said FOX’s Michael Thorn. “Matt, Emily, Bruce, Manish, Shaunette and the show’s entire cast have turned in consistently heartfelt performances, and we are so excited to go back to Chastain Memorial for another tremendous season.”

While “The Resident” has not been a blockbuster ratings performer, it has shown stability in the weeks since its time period premiere. It also routinely builds on its “Lucifer” lead-in.

FOX notes that episodes of “The Resident” are averaging 10 million viewers across all platforms.
