Update: Introduced via a performance on Saturday’s “SNL,” Donald “Childish Gambino” Glover’s “This Is America” proved instantly resonate with American music buyers.

It reached the Top 5 on the US iTunes sales chart by early Sunday afternoon. By 5:15PM ET, it had ascended to #1 on the all-genre listing.

For his second performance on this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live,” Donald “Childish Gambino” Glover premiered a new song called “This Is America.”

The song, visually stunning performance and concurrently released music video clearly resonated with American music fans.

By early Sunday afternoon, the song had entered the Top 5 of the all-genre US iTunes sales chart.

“This Is America” is #4 as of press time at 1:13PM ET. It seems to be rising quickly, making the prospect of hitting the Top 3 — if not #1 — very reasonable.

In addition to performing, Glover hosted Saturday’s “SNL.”
