The drama will take place in an alternate reality where the South successfully seceded from the Union.

As “Game Of Thrones” heads towards its final season, HBO confirms that it will continue working with creators/showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss.

The network announced that it has ordered their new original series “Confederate.”

The show chronicles the events leading to the Third American Civil War. It takes place in an alternate timeline in which the South successfully seceded from the Union. “Slavery remains legal and has evolved into a modern institution.”

“Confederate” will follow characters on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Production will begin after “Game Of Thrones” concludes.
