James Corden’s 2016 “Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special won an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special.

Will the 2017 edition do the same?

It will at least have a chance. The 2017 special, which featured Carpool Karaoke with Katy Perry and Toddlerography with Jennifer Lopez, is up for the Variety Special prize this year.

Its competition will come from “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee Presents Not The White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” the “Louis CK 2017” Netflix special, “Sarah Silverman: A Speck Of Dust,” and Stephen Colbert’s “Live Election Night: Democracy’s Series Finale.”

The 2017 ceremony will emanate from the Microsoft Theater on September 17.

— In addition to the Variety Special nod, the special picked up a nomination for Technical Direction/Camera Work/Video Control for a Limited Series, Movie or Special.
