Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” Reaches 34x Platinum Under RIAA Latin Program

“Despacito” has been certified triple diamond — and then some — under the RIAA Latin Music program.

Luis Fonsi’s smash “Despacito” received a diamond certification under the RIAA’s Latin Music program this past April.

It crossed into double diamond territory on May 4, 2017.

On May 18, 2017, it moved past the triple diamond marker.

The RIAA confirms that “Despacito” received a 34x platinum award on that May 18 date.

The certification confirms 2.04 million in US units; each unit is equal to 1 paid download or 150 streams.

While the RIAA website entry only lists “Despacito,” the new certification surely accounts for the remix featuring Justin Bieber. Daddy Yankee also appears on both the original and remix.

The Latin Music Program honors music that is primarily in Spanish.
