“Lucifer” Season Finale Airs Monday Night; What To Expect In “The Good, The Bad And The Crispy”

Season two of FOX’s “Lucifer” comes to an end Monday night.

Last week’s “Lucifer” revealed the frightening nature of the light emanating from Charlotte’s body.

Luckily, Lucifer and Amenadiel concurrently realized that they have the necessary pieces to ignite the flaming sword. They are therefore able to bring their mother back to Heaven — and prevent her from causing any future damage (or death) on Earth.

That logic assumes, of course, that everything will go smoothly. You can safely bet it will not.

Monday’s season finale finds the characters overcoming these hurdles in an effort to best handle the situation with their mother. It also plants the seeds for season three, which will premiere this fall.

Entitled “The Good, The Bad and The Crispy,” it airs at 9PM ET/PT on FOX.

Headline Planet screened the episode in advance. Based on that screening, here are six things to expect.

Photos from the episode are also featured below.

Case Of The Week:
In the closing moments of last week’s episode, Chet stabbed Lucifer’s mother (in Charlotte’s body).

She was not, however, the one who died. The stab wound allowed the mysterious light to burst through Charlotte’s body, and it instantly burned Chet to death.

Early in this week’s episode, Charlotte calls professionals to help dispose of the body. Unfortunately, the body is still discovered.  Even more unfortunately, Chloe gets the case.

Given that Chloe is “annoyingly good” at her job, Lucifer fears it is only a matter of time before she discovers the truth.

His role in this week’s episode, therefore, is to hinder — rather than help — Chloe’s investigation. He needs to stall the detective until he can return his mother to Heaven.

Amenadiel processes being the “favorite” son:
God entrusted Amenadiel with the final piece of the flaming sword. On the surface, that would point to Amenadiel being the “favorite” son.

Amenadiel momentarily takes joyous pride in that fact, but then he starts to think about the broader implications. What does it really mean that he was chosen to carry the final piece? And what does it mean that Amenadiel — prior to realizing he had been chosen — had been losing faith?

Amenadiel seeks time to explore these questions. Time, however, is a luxury the characters do not have. With Mom’s divine (and dangerous) powers returning and Chloe’s investigation leading her to Charlotte, Lucifer needs Amenadiel to end his journey of enlightenment and focus his energy on lighting the sword.

Amenadiel does improv:
Last week, we learned that Dan has been doing improvisational comedy while working through personal issues.

Wrestling with personal issues of his own, Amenadiel joins Dan at improv this week.

Let’s just say Amenadiel makes Michael Scott look like a good improv classmate.

Things get intense for Dr. Linda:
A burning light is emanating from Charlotte’s body. Chloe, through her investigation, is quickly closing in on Charlotte as the culprit.

The action is both literally and figuratively heating up. And Dr. Linda finds herself at the center.

Dr. Linda has proven to be a good sport when it comes to her involvement in Lucifer’s family matters, but as a mortal human, she is ultimately limited in her ability to keep up. When things involving Lucifer’s family get messy, they can become particularly problematic for Dr. Linda.

This week’s episode reminds us of that fact.

Lucifer-Chloe development

Given that Lucifer is trying to stall Chloe’s investigation, the devil and detective are certainly not on the same page this week.

And insofar as the episode’s core focus is the issue with Lucifer’s mother and the sword, the “will they or won’t they” element of the Lucifer-Chloe dynamic does not take center stage.

Those facts do not, however, mean the episode is without any development when it comes to their relationship.

Stage set for season three:
Season finales are expected to resolve some key narratives, but they are also expected to set the stage for future storylines.

Monday’s episode very much adheres to that convention. The closing moment reveals a new situation (see: challenge) the show will address when it returns for season three this fall.
