Two versions of original song “We Can Always Come Back To This” were featured prominently in Tuesday’s “This Is Us.”

Twenty four hours have passed since the broadcast, and both versions now have prominent positions on the US iTunes sales chart.

Brian Tyree Henry’s (credited as Brian Tyree) version is #17 on the all-genre single sales listing as of 9:55PM ET, while Hannah Miller’s take is #64.

Entitled “Memphis,” Tuesday’s superb “This Is Us” provided a glimpse into William’s backstory (through flashbacks) as his present-day death drew near.

While in Memphis as a young man, William was part of a band led by his cousin Ricky (played by Brian Tyree Henry). They were initially a cover band, but William had aspirations of writing original songs. “We Can Always Come Back To This” was the first song he completed, and it was proof that he — and the band — could be something special. Ricky sang the song beautifully in the initial performance, and doors to legitimate success seemed to be opening.

(Those doors would close when William left town, initially to care for his sick mother)

Hannah Miller’s version played at the end of the episode — as the dying William and his biological son Randall (Sterling K. Brown) said a final, emotional goodbye.
