While it will not claim the top spot on this week’s Billboard 200, John Mayer’s new “The Search For Everything – Wave One” may have a shot at #1 on Top Album Sales.

According to Hits Daily Double, the EP — featuring the first four songs from Mayer’s album — should sell 30-33,000 pure US copies this week. That very well could rank as the week’s best pure sales total.

At this point, the most obvious threats on the pure sales front are AFI’s new “AFI (The Blood Album)” and the “La La Land” soundtrack.

The AFI release is pacing for ~29-32,000 pure US sales. Projections are not yet available for “La La Land,” but the album sold just under 30,000 copies last week and is not expected to take a huge hit this week. It may also receive a boost in conjunction with Tuesday’s Oscar nominations announcement.

With TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1500) included, Mayer’s EP should generate roughly 40,000 US consumption units. That will put Mayer’s album comfortably ahead of the AFI release (which is only expected to receive 1-2K in TEA and SEA units) but not be enough to challenge The Weeknd’s “Starboy” for #1.

Billboard says “Starboy” should generate another 55-60,000 consumption units this week.
