The Fray’s Isaac Slade, Joe King Now Credited As Writers On The Chainsmokers & Halsey’s “Closer”

Since the song’s July release, numerous music fans and bloggers have discussed a similarity between The Chainsmokers’ smash “Closer (featuring Halsey)” and The Fray’s 2005 breakthrough “Over My Head (Cable Car).”

Specifically, listeners have compared the EDM hook in “Closer” to the driving piano riff in “Over My Head.”

Amid the discussion, The Fray members and “Over My Head” songwriters Isaac Slade and Joe King have each received a writing credit on “Closer.”

The ASCAP listing for the song identifies Slade and King as co-writers alongside Halsey (Ashley Frangipane), Shaun Frank, Frederic Kennett, and Chainsmokers member Drew Taggart.

Music industry professional and commentator Adam Raza first noted the revision on Twitter.

As of press time, it is unclear what prompted the decision to credit Slade and King.

“Closer” is the reigning #1 song in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom.
