Update: Katy Perry’s newly released “Rise” will serve as an anthem during NBC’s 2016 Olympics coverage. It will apparently not be the lead single from her fourth album.

Prior to 11:15PM ET Thursday, the world assumed Britney Spears’ “Make Me (featuring G-Eazy)” would be the week’s biggest new music release.

Then Katy Perry changed the conversation. She, without warning, released a new single called “Rise.” It is currently available for purchase on iTunes.

While many expected Perry to release a lead single this summer, few knew one was coming this week. The most recent Katy Perry discussion, after all, concerned the Tweets she issued in the wake of Calvin Harris’ rant against Taylor Swift and team.
