Cinemax’s “Outcast” Premiere Posts Weak Ratings

Outcast [Cinemax]

Cinemax’s heavily hyped new series “Outcast” got off to a disappointing start Friday.

According to national data posted by Showbuzz, Friday’s premiere posted a mere 0.06 adults 18-49 rating. Its total live+same-day audience registered at a mere 152,000.

The numbers markedly trail those routinely posted by Cinemax’s “Banshee” during its final season.

While the adults 18-49 number is comparable, the viewership figure trails that typically drawn throughout the first and second seasons of Cinemax’s “The Knick.”

“Outcast” does have at least a partial excuse for the low broadcast ratings: Friday’s episode was widely available on streaming/on-demand platforms in advance of the live TV premiere. That excuse will not apply in the future, however, so it will be interesting to see how “Outcast” fares in the coming weeks.

Of course, the answer to that question is not of immediate consequence. “Outcast” has already been renewed for a second season.
