Revived by an unforgettable performance on last Thursday’s “American Idol,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Piece By Piece” is poised to return to the Top 40 — and comfortably so — on this week’s Mediabase hot adult contemporary airplay chart.
“Piece By Piece,” which is also available to radio programmers in the form of an “Idol version,” received 332 spins during the first five days of the February 28-March 5 tracking week.
The count positions Clarkson’s tune at #35 on Mediabase’s building Hot AC airplay chart.
Given the rapid rate at which it is gaining spins, “Piece By Piece” may rise from that position over the tracking week’s final two days. It will also receive a one-spot bump since Elle King’s “Ex’s And Oh’s,” which is currently #11 on the building chart, is due to be removed as a recurrent.
The result could be an official position near the Top 30, which is where the song peaked during its original radio run.
