Shawn Mendes’ “Something Big” Certified Platinum; Camila Cabello Duet Goes Gold

Shawn Mendes [ABC]

Shawn Mendes, whose “Handwritten” was certified platinum in conjunction with the RIAA’s new methodology change, also received a pair of new single certifications.

As of January 29, his single “Something Big” is certified platinum in the US. “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” his duet with Camila Cabello, is officially gold (Editor’s Note: As of press time, the official RIAA website entry only lists Mendes as the artist).

The certifications confirm respective US digital unit totals of 1,000,000 and 500,000.

Since the certifications came prior to February 1, they adhere to the previous digital single methodology: a unit is equal to 1 paid download or 100 streams. Moving forward, a unit will be worth a paid download or 150 streams.

Of course, insofar as “I Know What You Did Last Summer” had sold almost 480,000 paid downloads as of the January 29 certification date, it would have been eligible under either methodology.
