Hot 100: Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” Debuts at #23

Timberlake Stapleton [ABC]

Powered by what Nielsen Music reports as 131,206 weekly US sales, Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” debuts at #23 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.

Cut from Stapleton’s “Traveller,” the song reached a massive audience during the November 4 CMA Awards. Stapleton performed the song alongside Justin Timberlake in a duet that was universally considered the night’s finest moment.

In going onto win three awards — New Artist, Album, and Male Vocalist — Stapleton spurred more intrigue around his music, and thus more commercial activity for the standout track.

The aforementioned 131,206 sales figure measures activity for the entire week between October 30 and November 5. The overwhelming majority of that activity, however, was generated following the November 4 performance.
