Demi Lovato’s “Cool For the Summer” Crosses 500K Sales Mark, Gains Airplay

While official data for the August 28-September 3 tracking week has not yet been published, enough insight exists to confirm that Demi Lovato’s “Cool For The Summer” has crossed the 500,000 US sales mark.

Going into the sales week, “Cool For The Summer” had driven what Nielsen Music reports as 494,521 sales. Insofar as it was projected to sell upwards of 60,000 tracking week copies — and certainly far more than 5,500 — it undoubtedly entered the half-million club.

Lovato performed the song at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards and on Monday’s edition of “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

— In addition to crossing the aforementioned sales milestone, “Cool For the Summer” will also reach a new peak on this week’s Mediabase pop radio airplay chart. The song, which hit #5 on last week’s chart, will ascend to #4 on this week’s listing. In doing so, it will outright become Lovato’s second-highest-charting pop radio hit (it is currently in a three-way tie with “Heart Attack” and “Neon Lights”).

“Cool For The Summer” may not rise from its #12 peak on the hot adult contemporary airplay chart, but it will post a week-over-week airplay gain.

— “Cool For The Summer” is the lead single from Lovato’s forthcoming “Confident.”
