Ratings: HBO’s “True Detective” Slips to Season Low, “Ballers” Surges

Promise of the heavily hyped “colossal orgy” scene did not yield ratings gains for HBO’s “True Detective.”

Sunday’s episode drew a 1.02 adults 18-49 rating with 2.340 million total viewers. Both numbers narrowly trail those of last week’s episode, which posted a 1.03 rating with 2.415 million viewers.

The numbers also represent season lows for “True Detective.” Prior to this week’s installment, no season two episode had drawn fewer than 2.359 million viewers or gone below the aforementioned 1.03 in the demo.

Despite the slightly reduced lead-in support, comedy “Ballers” enjoyed sizable gains this week. After posting a 0.79 with 1.641 million viewers last week, the football-themed comedy drew a 0.92 with 1.811 million this week.

HBO also aired “The Brink” (0.42 with 975,000 viewers vs. a 0.43 with 1.062 million) and “Last Week Tonight” (0.32 with 938,000 vs. a 0.41 with 1.042 million).
