Hunter Hayes Teases New Single; Posts 21 Black Pictures on Twitter

Hunter Hayes Jason Witten (CBS)

Last Monday, an ad in Country Aircheck magazine featured a Hunter Hayes-watermarked calendar with May 21 highlighted in black. The implication seemed to be that the musician’s new single would arrive on that date.

Hayes seemingly continued that tease with a stream of Twitter posts early Sunday morning.

Beginning with a Tweet at 12:17AM ET, Hayes published a string of 21 consecutive Tweets. Each contained nothing but an all-black image.

Hayes is also using the all-black graphic as his profile photo and cover picture.

Unclear at press time is whether the 21 photos were intended to reinforce the idea of the May 21 release date, suggest that the song “21” will be his new single, or both.

As of 1:15AM, the pictures remained intact.  That reality, combined with the fact that the supportive @HHRoadGuy re-Tweeted one of the images, almost certainly rules out the possibility that the stunt is the work of a clever hacker.  It definitely appears to be a promotional campaign for his new music.

Neither Hayes nor label Atlantic has explicitly announced the new single.
