FOX’s “Backstrom” Has Officially Been Cancelled

“The Following” and “The Mindy Project” were not this week’s only casualties at FOX.

News broke Friday afternoon that the network also pulled the plug on cop dramedy “Backstrom.”

Benefiting from curiosity, solid “American Idol” lead-in support and the absence of competition from usual timeslot occupants “The Blacklist” and “Scandal,” the January premiere of “Backstrom” delivered solid ratings.

As the circumstances worsened – curious premiere week viewers lost interest, the “Idol” lead-in faded before leaving the Thursday slot altogether and “The Blacklist” and “Scandal” joined the competitive fray – so too did the “Backstrom” numbers. By the midway point of its first season, it was clearly on course for cancellation.

Rainn Wilson starred in the series.
