AWOLNATION Stays #1 at Alternative Radio; Zac Brown Band Still Tops Rock

Neither alternative radio nor active rock radio features a changing of the guard this week.

That means AWOLNATION’s “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)” claims #1 on Mediabase’s official alternative airplay chart for a third straight week. Zac Brown Band’s “Heavy is the Head (featuring Chris Cornell)” reigns over Mediabase’s active rock listing for a second consecutive frame.

While “Hollow Moon” did suffer a spin decrease this week, its track week total of ~2,528 plays represents the best for an alternative song. Muse’s surging “Dead Inside” (~2,439) could overtake “Hollow Moon” next week, but it settled for the second-most-played label during the April 26-May 2 tracking week.

Other top 5 songs on the Mediabase alternative chart include Death Cab for Cutie’s “Black Sun” (~2,329 spins, #3), Mumford & Sons’ “Believe” (~2,209, #4) and Foo Fighters’ “Congregation” (~2,117, #5).

Zac Brown Band’s “Heavy is the Head” maintains its #1 active rock position on the strength of ~2,033 weekly spins. Breaking Benjamin’s surging “Failure” earns second with ~1,873, while The Pretty Reckless’ “Follow Me Down” (~1,678, #3), The Offspring’s “Coming for You” (~1,519, #4) and Slash’s “Bent to Fly” (~1,336, #5) complete the top five.
