Future Islands Performs “The Chase” on Letterman’s “Late Show” (Watch)

It was just over a year ago that Future Islands delivered one of the most memorable performances in the history of CBS’ “Late Show with David Letterman.”

Tuesday, the band returned to the iconic late night talk show.

Hoping to simultaneously recreate the magic of last year’s “Seasons (Waiting on You),” generate enthusiasm for a new song and address an ongoing domestic situation, Future Islands performed “The Chase” on Tuesday’s “Letterman.”

The performance indeed featured lead singer Samuel T. Herring’s unique energy and eclectic dance moves, but insofar as it was dedicated to those in Baltimore, it also possessed a notably serious and emotional tone.

The result will doubtfully become an Internet sensation in the vein of last year’s “Seasons” performance, but it did make for a musically stellar and immensely compelling talk show performance.
