Ratings Update: CW’s “Reign,” “The Vampire Diaries” Continue to Underwhelm

Update: The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” and “Reign” returned with their first installments since March 19, and neither fared especially well.

Airing at 8PM, Thursday’s “TVD” drew what final broadcast data confirms as a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating with 1.35 million viewers. The former ties a series low, while the latter is the second-lowest mark ever achieved by a “The Vampire Diaries.” Only the March 12 installment, which reached 1.30 million viewers, fared worse in that regard.

The previous “TVD,” which aired on March 19, drew a 0.7 with 1.59 million viewers.

9PM lead-out “Reign” followed with a 0.3 adults 18-49 rating and 1.01 million viewers. The previous, March 19 installment posted a 0.3 with 1.09 million.

Buzz over star Nina Dobrev’s impending departure did not boost interest in “The Vampire Diaries,” which slipped in adults 18-49 and total viewership this week.

Per fast national data, this week’s “The Vampire Diaries” drew a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating with 1.34 million viewers. Both numbers were down from the previous broadcast, which posted a 0.7 with 1.59 million viewers on March 19.

Fast national data suggests that this week’s “Reign” bested the previous installment in adults 18-49. It did, however, suffer an episode-to-episode viewership decline.

Final broadcast data reveals that the March 19 episode drew a 0.3 adults 18-49 rating with 1.09 million viewers.

Worth noting: that night’s episode scored the same 0.4 adults 18-49 rating in the fast nationals but suffered a downward adjustment to the aforementioned 0.3 in the finals. With such an adjustment always a possibility, it is by no means certain that this week’s episode actually outdrew its predecessor in adults 18-49.

While their recent performances have been underwhelming, both “The Vampire Diaries” and “Reign” have been renewed for next season.
