Maroon 5’s “Sugar” Becomes Pop Radio’s Most Played Song

Maroon 5 (NBC)

For the first time since March 13, Taylor Swift’s “Style” does not rank as pop radio’s most played song.

That honor now belongs to Maroon 5’s “Sugar,” which ascends to #1 on the March 31 edition of Mediabase’s rolling pop radio airplay chart.

According to Mediabase, “Sugar” received 18,127 pop spins during the week between March 24 and March 30. “Style,” which bested the Maroon 5 song on Sunday’s official airplay chart, received a slightly lesser spin total of 18,041 within the March 24-30 window.

In order to officially become pop radio’s #1 song, “Sugar” will need to hold its airplay lead through Sunday. It is no longer rising explosively, but insofar as it is rising at a point when “Style” is falling and Ellie Goulding’s #3 “Love Me Like You Do” remains separated by more than 2500 spins, it should be able to score that official #1.
