Walk the Moon Claims #1 at Alternative, Three Days Grace Still Tops Active Rock

As it begins its effort to become pop radio’s next big crossover hit, Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance” rises to the top of the alternative radio airplay chart.

“Shut Up and Dance” claims #1 on Mediabase’s official alternative chart courtesy the 2,597 spins it received during the February 8-14 tracking week. Up 98 spins from last week’s count, the total gave “Shut Up” a comfortable edge over Cage the Elephant’s previous leader “Cigarette Daydreams.” That multi-week #1 slips to #2 with 2,360 spins.

Other key movers at alternative this week include Modest Mouse’s “Lampshades on Fire,” which enters the Top 5 (#4, 1,942 spins) and Robert DeLong’s “Long Way Down,” which goes Top 10 (#8, 1,533 spins).

While alternative radio says hello to a #1, active rock is still honoring Three Days Grace’s “I Am Machine”

“I Am Machine” retains its #1 position on the strength of its 2,068 spins.

The format’s airplay chart does, however, feature some notable movement. Halestorm’s “Apocalyptic” (#4, 1,359 spins) and The Pretty Reckless’ “Follow Me Down” (#5, 1,223 spins) both enter the top 5 this week, while Foo Fighters’ “Congregation” (#8, 1,039 spins) and Sixx:A.M.’s “Stars” (#10, 946 spins) reach the Top 10.
