Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance” is Alternative’s Most-Played Song

Not simply the beginning of its crossover effort at pop radio, this week is due to also represent the one in which Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance” hits #1 at its core format.

The song is now the most-played song at alternative radio. And insofar as it is still rising and facing no imminent threats from other songs at the format it will hold its position through Sunday evening and grab the #1 spot on Mediabase’s official weekly chart.

“Shut Up and Dance” received 2,576 spins between February 6 and 12. Cage the Elephant’s “Cigarette Daydreams,” which previously held the #1 spot, only commanded 2,459 within that window.

Sunday’s official chart is also due to feature a new top five entry in Modest Mouse’s “Lampshades on Fire” and a new top ten entry in Robert DeLong’s “Long Way Down.”
