Pharrell’s “Happy” Wins Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance

Pharrell’s “Happy” ultimately went without acknowledgement in the general field categories, but it was certainly not unnoticed by the Recording Academy.

In addition to picking up the Best Music Video trophy, Pharrell’s infectious tune also won Best Pop Solo Performance. The award went to a live version of the song.

“Happy” beat out Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me,” Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off,” a live version of John Legend’s “All of Me” and Sia’s “Chandelier.”

The victory for “Happy” assured Smith would not sweep his categories at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. The English singer-songwriter can, however, still walk away with as many as five trophies.
