Cage the Elephant’s “Cigarette Daydreams” is Now Alt’s Most-Played Song

After many consecutive weeks on top, Foo Fighters’ “Something from Nothing” appears poised to finally cede its throne at the alternative/modern rock format.

It has already slipped from the top spot on Mediabase’s rolling airplay chart.

Cage the Elephant’s “Cigarette Daydreams,” not the Foo Fighters song, commanded the most alternative spins during the seven days between January 9 and 15. “Cigarette Daydreams” received 2,397 plays within that window, while “Something” settled for 2,370.

Insofar as it is currently rising and “Something” is currently falling, the Cage the Elephant track should be able to maintain its lead through the release of the official chart on Sunday.

The more notable threat, in fact, might exist in the form of Arctic Monkeys’ “R U Mine?” Currently #3 on the rolling chart, that track is only two spins behind “Something from Nothing” and expected to imminently close that gap.
