Since emerging from “The X Factor,” girl group Fifth Harmony has released three official singles.
As of this week, one of those songs is a top forty hit.
Owing significant credit to its Christmas week sales surge, the group’s “Sledgehammer” rockets to the #40 position on Billboard’s all-encompassing chart. The position bests last week’s mark, which was, at the time, a new peak for the song, by a whopping thirty five positions.
Previous single “Bo$$,” which also comes from the upcoming “Reflection” album, peaked at #43. Prior to that, the group reached #76 with debut single “Miss Movin’ On.”
Insofar as “Sledgehammer” is in a state of decline on the digital sales chart, it will likely lose ground on next week’s Hot 100. To regain its steam–and fly higher than #40–it will likely require significantly more support from pop radio programmers.
(Update: Thanks to the ongoing $0.69 iTunes discount and exposure during FOX’s New Year’s Eve special, “Sledgehammer” has held up better on the sales chart than first anticipated. It should thus hold up better on next week’s Hot 100 than first anticipated).
It registers at #23 on the most recent Billboard pop airplay chart.
