Tim McGraw’s “Shotgun Rider” is Country’s New #1, Carrie Goes Top 5

Maddie and Tae’s “Girl in a Country Song” received its moment in the sun last week, but as has become so often the case on the country airplay chart, its stint at #1 lasted for only a week.

A new number one emerges this frame in the form of Tim McGraw’s “Shotgun Rider.” The song will officially be named #1 on Mediabase’s country airplay chart, which is to be published Sunday evening.

“Shotgun Rider” commanded approximately 7,913 spins during the December 7-13 tracking week, which gives it a convincing first-place finish. Its audience impression count of 56.27 million also represents the format’s best, which bodes well for its prospects of claiming #1 on Billboard’s audience-driven Country Airplay chart. That listing is due Monday evening.

Brad Paisley’s “Perfect Storm” claims #2 on the Mediabase chart courtesy its approximate weekly spin count of 7,319. Parmalee’s “Close Your Eyes” grabs #3 via about 6,869 spins, while Kenny Chesney’s “Til its Gone” (#4, ~6,697) and Carrie Underwood’s “Something in the Water” (#5, ~6,673) complete the top five.
