“The Hanging Tree” Erupts as Pop’s Most-Added; Ella Henderson, Pitbull Follow

Immensely popular with music buyers, James Newton Howard’s “The Hanging Tree (featuring Jennifer Lawrence)” also possesses enormous appeal within the radio community.

Added by several high-profile hot adult contemporary stations this week, the song, which has been remixed for radio, garnered an even more explosive reaction from the pop foramt.

According to Mediabase, the cut from “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” won support from 51 monitored stations to rank as pop’s most-added track.

High-profile stations officially in on the action include New York’s Z100, New York’s 103.5 KTU, Los Angeles’ 102.7 KIIS, Radio Disney, Chicago’s B96, Chicago’s 103.5 KISS and San Francisco’s 99.7 NOW.

With support from a high quantity of high quality radio stations, “The Hanging Tree” is poised to make a legitimate impression on the format’s airplay chart.

On the subject of impressions, Ella Henderson’s “Ghost” has recently begun flying up that pop airplay chart. Already pop’s 24th-most-played song, the international crossover landed at an additional 22 stations to tie Pitbull’s “Time of Our Lives (featuring Ne-Yo)” as second-most-added.

Prince Royce’s rapidly rising “Stuck on a Feeling (featuring Snoop Dogg)” follows as fourth-most-added with 21 pickups, while Hoodie Allen’s “All About It (featuring Ed Sheeran)” and Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” tie for fifth-most-added with 19 each.

Other hot attractions at pop this week included 5 Seconds of Summer’s “What I Like About You” (7th-most-added, 13 adds), Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” (7th-most-added, 13 adds), Fifth Harmony’s “Sledgehammer” (9th-most-added, 12 adds), Lillywood & Robin Schulz’ “Prayer in C” (9th-most-added, 12 adds) and One Direction’s “Night Changes” (9th-most-added, 12 adds).
