Ratings: CBS’ “The McCarthys” Starts Softly out of “Two and a Half Men” (Updated)

Update: Modest overall, the CBS ratings reported in the daily fast national report were inflated due to NFL pre-emptions.

The final, corrected data paints a weaker picture of all but “The Big Bang Theory.”

While “Big Bang” indeed closed with a 4.1 adults 18-49 rating and 16.25 million viewers, lead-out “Mom” drew a reduced 2.5 with 11.13 million. Strong compared to what the show routinely delivered in its previous Monday night timeslot, the 61% retention is disappointing.

“Two and a Half Men” followed with a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating and 10.29 million, while new series “The McCarthys” premiered to a mere 1.7 with 8.08 million total audience members. “Elementary” closed CBS’ evening with a 1.2 and 7.57 million.

CBS’ Thursday comedy block performed competitively this week, but it was not without some underwhelming areas.

Leading out of “The Big Bang Theory” (4.1 adults 18-49 rating, 16.22 million viewers), which has reclaimed its Thursday night slot, 8:30PM comedy “Mom” kicked off its second season with a 2.7 and 11.72 million.  While the 66% retention is not terrible in the circumstance, it is not indicative of the synergy many believed would exist between “Mom” and “Bang.”

“Two and a Half Men” then kicked off its second season with the same 2.7 adults 18-49 rating but 11.01 million viewers. That led into CBS’ debuting “The McCarthys,” which scored a soft 1.9 and 8.78 million viewers.

10PM drama “Elementary” closed The Eye’s evening with an underwhelming 1.4 adults 18-49 rating and 8.17 million viewers.
