Meghan Trainor’s “Lips are Movin” Scores Early Radio Support

While Meghan Trainor’s “Lips are Movin” does not formally impact the pop radio format until next week, some stations are already in on the action.

According to Mediabase, the follow-up to phenomenon “All About That Bass” garnered adds from three monitored stations this week. Included in that list is Los Angeles’ influential 102.7 KIIS, which means Trainor’s new song is due to receive exposure in the nation’s second-largest market.

KIIS has been quick to support follow-up singles from pop radio standouts. The influential LA station recently added Charli XCX’s “Break the Rules” and Ariana Grande’s (and The Weeknd’s) “Love Me Harder” in advance of their official impact dates. Both songs, which went onto make huge splashes on their official adds dates, are already within the format’s top 40.

The other stations now behind “Lips” are Dallas’ 106.1 KISS and Orlando’s XL 106.7.

Going into Tuesday’s adds update, “Lips are Movin” had already received 10 spins from Washington DC’s DC 107.3, 9 spins from Macon, Georgia’s B95.1 and a handful of plays from at least eight other stations.

Issued to music fans this Tuesday as part of a promotion with Shazam, “Lips are Movin” beat out “Title” and “Dear Future Husband” to become the official follow-up to “All About That Bass.” One of the first to hear and preview the song, Headline Planet last week issued a very favorable review of “Lips are Movin.”
