Ella Henderson’s “Ghost” Hits Top 40 at Pop Radio

Thanks to a promotional boost for its launch, David Guetta’s new single “Dangerous (featuring Sam Martin)” scored an artificially high spin count last Monday. With that impressive Monday count included in its weekly total, “Dangerous” was able to reach the Top 40 at pop radio.

Now that a week has passed, that hefty first day airplay no longer counts towards the song’s weekly total. As a result, Guetta’s single slipped to #41 on the latest edition of Mediabase’s rolling pop radio airplay chart.

By vacating its Top 40 position, “Dangerous” gave another track the opportunity to reach the iconic portion of the airplay chart. The track that seized the opportunity is Ella Henderson’s “Ghost,” which rises to #40.

International crossover hit “Ghost,” which received 908 spins during the October 7-13 tracking period, had spent the past several weeks in the #41-50 range.

Insofar as “Dangerous” should start to bounce back imminently, “Ghost” might be forced to relinquish its #40 position in the coming days (of course, it might also recapture its spot as aging songs begin to fall off the chart). But for an international success story looking to make her name in America, even a brief stint in the Top 40 at pop–to complement her #32 position at hot adult contemporary–is one worthy of celebration.
