Charli XCX’s “Break the Rules” Dances Into Top 40 at Pop

Charli XCX by Bella Howard

As Charli XCX declares in “London Queen,” her stint in the US is definitely not a mere holiday.

Thanks to official single “Break the Rules,” the singer-songwriter makes another appearance in the Top 40 of pop radio.

“Break the Rules,” Charli XCX’s follow-up to multi-week number one “Boom Clap,” rises to #38 on the rolling edition of Mediabase’s pop radio airplay chart. The song earns that position courtesy its 1,106 spins during the October 4 – 10 tracking period.

Rising at a rate of more than fifty spins per day, “Break the Rules” will have no issue retaining its Top 40 spot when Mediabase issues its official airplay chart Sunday evening.

“Break the Rules” is Charli XCX’s second solo Top 40 hit and her fourth such success story overall. She previously charted with the aforementioned “Boom Clap” and as a featured artist on Icona Pop’s “I Love It” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.” It followed One Direction’s “Steal My Girl” and Ariana Grande’s “Love Me Harder (featuring The Weeknd)” as pop’s third-most-added song for its impact this week.
