Ratings Update: The CW’s “Reign” Steady, “Vampire Diaries” Falls

Update: Even in the adults 18-49 demographic and up very slightly in adults 18-49, Thursday’s edition of The CW’s “Reign” delivered a 0.4 adults 18-49 rating with 1.09 million viewers.

Earlier in the night, The CW offered a deflated “The Vampire Diaries.” It fell to a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating with 1.67 million viewers.

Insofar as “The Vampire Diaries” and “Reign” launched the week before the rest of The CW’s fall schedule, the notion that viewers were unaware of the premiere dates was not totally outrageous.

But if that were the source of last week’s modest ratings–particularly those of “Reign”–what would explain a second week of disappointing performance?

After posting a 0.9 overnight household rating last week, “Reign” rose a mere tenth to a 1.0 for its second season two episode. While that bodes well for a slight rebound from last week’s series low 1.01 million viewership mark, it does not assure growth from last week’s 0.4 adults 18-49 number.

Earlier in the night, “The Vampire Diaries” drew a 1.5 overnight household rating. It was down slightly from last week’s 1.6, which translated into a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating with 1.81 million.
