One Direction’s “Steal My Girl” Opens With 186K Sales

Dramatically besting projections that emerged on iTunes tracking websites, One Direction’s “Steal My Girl” debuts at #3 on the weekly Billboard Digital Songs chart.

According to the publication, the lead “FOUR” single moved 186,000 copies in its first week of availability. That positions it behind only Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” (202,000) and Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” (188,000) on Digial Songs.

Strong enough for a #3 bow, the number nonetheless represents a significant step down for the boy band. “Best Song Ever,” which launched previous album “Midnight Memories,” moved a considerably stronger 322,000.

That tally slightly trailed that of its preceding lead single “Live While We’re Young,” which drove 341,000 first-week purchases.

Other top five sellers this week included Carrie Underwood’s “Something in the Water” (125,000) and Maroon 5’s “Animals” (115,000).
