First made available Monday, Lorde’s new single “Yellow Flicker Beat” is already one of the Top 40 songs at the alternative radio format.

According to Mediabase, the song, which is the lead single from the soundtrack to “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” had garnered 365 alternative radio spins by the end of Wednesday. That count ranks as the 32nd-largest for the entire week between September 25 and October 1.

The recipient of high-profile airplay, “Yellow Flicker Beat” is off to an even stronger start from an audience standpoint. Its impression count of 2.495 million through Wednesday was alternative’s 17th-largest for the aforementioned tracking period.

Impressive, the early chart success is far from surprising. Earlier this week, “Yellow Flicker Beat” scored more first-week radio adds than any song by a female artist in the history of the alternative format.

— In addition to the alternative/modern rock format, “Yellow Flicker Beat” is also charting on Triple A. It is currently #40 on Mediabase’s rolling AAA airplay chart thanks to 105 spins. Its audience impression count of 380,000 ranks as the format’s 23rd-largest.
