Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” Nears Top 5 at Pop

It is now a virtual lock that by the end of this weekend, Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” will be one of the top five songs at pop radio.

Pop’s #6 song for the seven days ending August 7, “Boom Clap” is soaring up the airplay chart as Ariana Grande’s #5 song “Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea)” begins to fall freely down the listing.

“Problem,” which is seeing its weekly spin count fall at a rate of more than 250 per day, garnered 11,653 pop radio plays between August 1 and 7. “Boom Clap,” which is adding to its weekly count at a daily rate of more than 100, received 11,391 during that same period.

If that pacing holds, the Charli XCX song would overtake “Problem” on Saturday’s edition of the chart (which measures airplay from August 2-August 8).

And even if “Problem” unexpectedly retains its #5 position for Saturday’s update, it will doubtfully do so again on Sunday.

By the end of the weekend, “Boom Clap” is therefore expected to rank as one of the pop format’s five most-played songs.
