Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” Climbs iTunes Sales Chart

Update: As of 1:30AM ET on Tuesday, Nicki Minaj’s new release “Anaconda” is up to #2 on the iTunes overall single sales chart.

Only Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” is ranked higher on the chart.

Whether it has the staying power to be bigger than a tower remains to be seen, but Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” is enjoying a strong first few hours on iTunes.

After roughly ten hours of availability early Monday morning, the song had reached as high as #9 on the iTunes overall single sales chart. It was expected to vault into the Top 5 as its release day progressed.

And if it has its sights set on the number one spot, it will have to claw that peak position away from another song involving Minaj.

“Bang Bang,” which credits Minaj, Jessie J and Ariana Grande as lead artists, has reigned atop the iTunes Single Sales chart since first reaching that position last week. Meghan Trainor’s #2 “All About That Bass” has closed much of the gap in sales pace, but it has thus far been unable to dethrone “Bang Bang.”

Delayed by a week, “Anaconda” debuted on iTunes Monday as the latest release from Minaj’s upcoming album “The Pink Print.”
