Maddie & Tae’s “Girl in a Country Song” Hits Top 40 at Radio

Thanks to the removal of Tyler Farr’s free-falling “Whiskey in My Water,” Maddie and Tae’s “Girl in a Country Song” leaps into the Top 40 on the latest edition of Mediabase’s official country radio airplay chart.

While the song’s spin count of 753 was only the format’s 42nd-largest for the seven days ending August 2, it had enough “chart points” to reach #40 on Sunday evening’s published chart.

It is far too early to know whether “Girl in a Country Song” will become a legitimate smash at radio, but the song is definitely off to a solid start. Its week-over-week spin gain of 278 was the largest for any song below #29 on the country chart and the format’s 15th-largest overall.

A hot track in multiple channels, “Girl in a Country Song” is #59 on iTunes and the recipient of 3.5 million views to-date on YouTube.
