Taylor Swift Performing at VMAs; New Single Expected

Taylor Swift [ABC]

While a new album has not been officially announced, all indications are that Taylor Swift remains committed to her every-other-fall release schedule.

That means Swift’s fifth studio album should be hitting shelves this fall (given her affinity for the number and the fact that it falls appropriately on a Monday, October 13 is emerging as the rumored, but very unconfirmed, release date within the “Swiftie” fan community).

It also means Swift is expected to launch a new single within the next few weeks. And if that occurs, the new song could make its television debut on the MTV Video Music Awards broadcast.

Substantiating rumors that had been emerging within music and television circles, E! is reporting that Swift’s VMAs performance is now a done deal.

Precise details on the “explosive” performance are not yet available, but E! adds that it will definitely be a solo number. And based on the timing (and common sense), it should involve a song from Swift’s new album.

The VMAs broadcast, which will also include performances from 5 Seconds of Summer, Ariana Grande, Usher and several to-be-revealed names, airs on August 24.

Nearly a month later, Swift will perform as a headliner at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas. Offering support for the speculation about a new Swift album, iHeart DJ Kristin Cruz recently said the singer-songwriter will “will debut new songs JUST FOR US” at the festival.
