Weezer [NBC]
It will not look exactly like it did in 1994. The host is different. The venue is different.
But it is still NBC’s iconic “The Tonight Show,” and it therefore represents an optimal platform for Weezer to deliver its first televised performance of new single “Back to the Shack.”
The song, Weezer’s first release in three years, made a monstrous impact at the rock and alternative radio formats this week, and the hope is that Wednesday’s “Tonight Show” performance will generate more buzz.
A revelation of the band’s (through frontman Rivers Cuomo) desire to go back to rock out like it’s 1994, “Shack” begins the cycle for Weezer’s new album “Everything Will Be Alright in the End.” The studio release hits stores on September 30, 2014.
The televised performance, which came after host Jimmy Fallon sat down (and performed sketches) with Robin Wright and Josh Charles, airs on Wednesday’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” The episode claims NBC’s airwaves at 11:35 PM ET.
