The 1975’s “Girls” Scores at Pop Radio, Tops Fifth Harmony, 5SOS

Amid a sea of debuts that included Ed Sheeran’s “Don’t,” 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Amnesia,” Fifth Harmony’s “Bo$$,” Jake Miller’s “First Flight Home” and Nicki Minaj’s “Pills N Potions,” The 1975’s “Girls” ranked as the week’s most-added new track at pop radio.

Mediabase reports that the song, which impacted alongside the aforementioned tracks, scored pickups from 31 pop stations this week. The most for any new song, the total was fourth overall.

With 61 pickups, Ariana Grande’s “Break Free (featuring Zedd)” once again reigned as the format’s most-added, while Iggy Azalea’s “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora)” and Kiesza’s “Hideaway” claimed second- and third-most-added with 35 and 33 adds, respectively.

While “Girls” made the largest impact, nearly all of the newcomers attracted solid interest from pop radio programmers.

Fifth Harmony’s “Bo$$” ranked second among new songs (and fifth overall) with 28 adds. 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Amnesia” followed with 26 (sixth overall), while Ed Sheeran’s “Don’t” landed at 25 new pop stations this week (seventh overall). With 22 adds each, Jake Miller’s new “First Flight Home” and Meghan Trainor’s recently-released “All About That Bass” shared eighth-most-added honors.

Enrique Iglesias’ enduring “Bailando (featuring Sean Paul, Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona)” claimed the tenth-most-added slot with 17 pop adds.

The only newly-impacting track to struggle this week was Nicki Minaj’s “Pills N Potions.” It received adds from only eight stations. (Update: There are conflicting reports about whether this song actually went for adds on 7/15).

Since Mediabase’s airplay chart only includes data from monitored reporters, it is also worth looking at how songs fared specifically with those stations:

1) Ariana Grande – Break Free featuring Zedd – 57 monitored adds
2) The 1975 – Girls – 31 monitored adds
3) Iggy Azalea – Black Widow featuring Rita Ora – 30 monitored adds
4) Kiesza – Hideaway – 29 monitored adds
5) Fifth Harmony – Bo$$ – 27 monitored adds
6) 5 Seconds of Summer – Amnesia – 25 monitored adds
7) Ed Sheeran – Don’t – 23 monitored adds
8) Jake Miller – First Flight Home – 22 monitored adds
9) Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass – 21 monitored adds
10) Enrique Iglesias – Bailando featuring Sean Paul, Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona – 17 monitored adds
