Hot 100: Ariana Grande’s “Break Free” Debuts at #15, 5SOS at #16

Thanks to its additional days of availability, 5 Seconds of Summer’s new “Amnesia” debuted higher on Billboard’s weekly digital sales chart than Ariana Grande’s new “Break Free (featuring Zedd).”

“Amnesia” rode its sales of 162,000 to a #4 position on the Billboard Digital Songs chart. With 161,000, “Break Free” settled for fifth.

When it comes to the more comprehensive Hot 100 chart, however, the board tipped slightly in favor of the Grande song.

According to Billboard, “Break Free” debuts at #15 on this week’s Hot 100. “Amnesia” settles for a #16 debut.

Of course, when judged relative to their previous releases, 5 Seconds of Summer has more to celebrate. In reaching #16, “Amnesia” passes previous single “She Looks So Perfect” as the highest-charting 5SOS release to date. That song peaked at #24.

Grande, meanwhile, debuted at #3 and peaked at #2 with previous single “Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea).” She also scored better with the #9-peaking “The Way (featuring Mac Miller).”

Still a hot seller and already a popular option at radio, “Break Free” will nonetheless hold up better on next week’s Hot 100.
