Vance Joy’s “Riptide,” Big Data’s “Dangerous” Erupting at Alternative

For Vance Joy and Big Data, the latest alternative radio data is full of joy.

The acts’ respective songs “Riptide” and “Dangerous (featuring Joywave)” are the week’s fastest-rising songs at alternative radio.

According to Mediabase’s rolling airplay chart, Vance Joy’s “Riptide” rocketed became the 17th-most-played song thanks to a gain of 272 spins. No song enjoyed a more significant gain in the seven days ending May 24.

Big Data’s “Dangerous (featuring Joywave),” meanwhile, rose to #12 on the strength of 200 new spins. The week’s second-biggest-gainer, “Dangerous” is essentially a lock to catapult into the top ten.

Other big gainers included Arctic Monkeys’ “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High,” which gained 168 spins to become the 6th-most-played alternative song, Foster the People’s “Best Friend,” which gained 171 spins to reach #15 and Dirty Heads’ “My Sweet Summer,” which vaulted to #27 on the strength of a 161-spin increase.
