Careful soundtrack choices have always been pivotal to “How I Met Your Mother.” And with the stakes almost as high as they could possibly get on the show, the “HIMYM” team turned to Pearl Jam for a pivotal moment.
“Future Days,” a ballad from the band’s “Lightning Bolt” album, provided backdrop for the long-awaited wedding between Barney and Robin. The wedding, which closed an episode that included a nervous Robin nearly fleeing the premise, finally locked two of the show’s other central characters in a marital bond.
Though his feet never sank to the temperature of Robin’s, Barney did temporarily consider leaving the ceremony to retrieve a cornflower blue tie from his apartment in Manhattan. As expected, Marshall used the final piece of his “Slap Bet” to knock some sense into the groom and assure the wedding went off without a hitch.
With Marshall, Lily, Barney and Robin all in happy, presumably lifelong relationships, attention now turns to the impending meeting between central character Ted (Josh Radnor) and the titular Mother played by Cristin Milioti.
That meeting will come during next week’s hourlong finale, which airs on CBS at 8PM on Monday, March 31.
